Official statement from Telefilm Canada on the passing of Kevin Tierney
It was with great sadness that we learned that Kevin Tierney passed away this weekend.
As a producer, screenwriter, and director, Mr. Tierney was an important figure in Canadian cinema, whose body of work will have a lasting impact on our national cinema. His films resonated, and continue to resonate, with audiences everywhere. This includes, of course, Bon Cop, Bad Cop, one of the most commercially successful Canadian films, Gemini-nominated Choice: The Henry Morgentaler Story, Gemini Award-winning One Dead Indian, The Trostky, and French Immersion.
Among his many accomplishments, Mr. Tierney also served as head of the Cinémathèque québécoise’s board of directors, as vice-chair of cinema for the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, and received a producer’s award from the Canadian Film and Television Production Association in 2009.
Mr. Tierney will be greatly missed.
Our deepest condolences go out to his wife Terry, his children Jacob and Brigid, and his friends and loved ones.
