Statement of Mr. Michel Roy, Chair of the Board of Telefilm Canada, concerning the death of Ms. Jeanine Beaubien

Montréal, March 9, 2016 – It is with great sadness that we at Telefilm Canada learned about the recent passing of Jeanine Beaubien, who sat on our Board of Directors from December 1996 to March 2003.

A well-known figure on the Canadian cultural scene, Ms. Beaubien founded the Théâtre international de Montréal La Poudrière in 1957. Involved in numerous artistic, social and political projects, she was also the co-founder and an active member of the Alzheimer Society of Montreal.

Ms. Beaubien was a Member of the Order of Canada and an Officer of the Ordre national du Québec, and she was also awarded an honorary doctorate degree from Bishop’s University.

On behalf of my colleagues at Telefilm Canada, I would like to acknowledge Ms. Beaubien’s contribution to the history of our organization, and to extend my most heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.
