Telefilm Canada announces selection of two Canadian producers by the Ateliers du cinéma européen

25 February 2011

Montreal, February 25, 2011 – For the third year running, Telefilm Canada is proud to be supporting Canadian producers through the Ateliers du Cinéma Européen (ACE) and its training and professional development program for non-European Union independent producers. This year, ACE has selected two Canadian producers – Damon D’Oliveira from Conquering Lion Pictures (The Book of Negroes), for the English market, and Chantal Lafleur from Productions La Fête (Le Plieur de temps), for the French market – to participate in the 2011 session of the ACE Mundus Program.

The workshops, taking place in Paris and Amsterdam from March 27 to April 3, include a coproduction seminar and professional development training delivered in one-on-one sessions with script consultants and financing experts.

“ACE Mundus offers Canadian participants an exceptional opportunity to develop the creative and financial aspects of their coproduction projects and to join a pan-European network of producers where they can forge strategic international contacts and partnerships,” said Florence Moureaux, Interim Director, National and International Business Development.

For Canadian participant Chantal Lafleur, of Productions La Fête, “Participating in the ACE Mundus program provides a special chance to refine and improve the development and financing approach for our project. It certainly will be beneficial for other projects we want to coproduce one day. I am delighted to have the opportunity to join the ACE network.”

“Taking part in the ACE Mundus program encourages the development of vital partnerships within an exceptional group of European producers,” said Damon D’Oliveira, of Conquering Lion Pictures. “With Canadian producers now looking to international financing and coproductions to get their feature films made, the members and mentors at ACE can offer invaluable networking opportunities on the global market.”

The two Canadian producers were selected by an ACE jury composed of external readers and industry experts. Telefilm Canada is supporting their participation in ACE Mundus by covering the related costs.
