Telefilm Canada celebrates Canadian cinema at the 30th anniversary of the Vancouver International Film Festival

07 September 2011

Montreal, September 7, 2011 – Telefilm Canada heartily congratulates the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) on the occasion of its 30th anniversary. Telefilm’s participation enables VIFF to put on a first-class event for an ever-growing public of movie buffs and Canadian and international industry representatives.

“For 30 years, VIFF has done a great deal for the promotion and recognition of Canadian cinema,” said Carolle Brabant, Executive Director of Telefilm. “Solidly rooted in the Western region and backed by its community while being open to the entire country and the world, VIFF showcases Canadian talent in all its diversity. The Festival stimulates public interest in our films, an objective that Telefilm wholeheartedly shares. Bravo to the organizers and volunteers for making VIFF a popular success.”

John Dippong, Regional Director, Business Development, Western Region, for Telefilm Canada, added: “Over the past three decades, VIFF has played a pivotal role in launching the careers of some of Canada’s finest filmmakers. This year’s Canadian Images series continues the tradition of launching films from new directors such as Aaron Houston, Shelagh Carter, Anne Émond and Derek Franson. Canadian Images films are consistently among the most popular of the VIFF’s offerings, and are a testament to how successful the Festival has been at building audiences.”
