Telefilm Canada Congratulates Barney’s Version on the Oscar Nomination
Montréal, January 25, 2011 – Telefilm Canada warmly congratulates Adrien Morot on his Oscar nomination in the Makeup category for Barney’s Version.
“We are proud to have partnered with Robert Lantos and the entire team on this project since the beginning. It is a pleasure to congratulate Adrien Morot on his nomination,” said Carolle Brabant, Executive Director of Telefilm Canada. “This great Canadian story has touched audiences around the world – a testament to the great talent both in front of and behind the camera.”
Barney’s Version has been collecting honours on both sides of the border, most recently when Paul Giamatti won the Golden Globe for best actor in comedy or musical for this same role. Mr. Giamatti was also named best actor in a Canadian feature by the Vancouver Film Critics Circle. The film won the ‘Leoncido d’oro’ when it premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, as well as the Audience Award at the San Sebastian International Film Festival.
Barney’s Version, a coproduction between Canada’ Serendipity Point Films and LYLA Films Inc. and Italy’s Fandango, was financed through Telefilm Canada’s Feature Film Fund. Directed by Richard J. Lewis and written for the screen by Michael Konyves, Barney’s Version is the touching story of the life of the impulsive and irascible Barney Panofsky. The film is distributed by eOne Films in Canada.
On November 2, 2010, the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, hosted a special screening for Parliamentarians in Ottawa of the film.
