Telefilm Canada Congratulates the Genie Award Nominees
Montréal, February 2, 2011 – Telefilm Canada warmly congratulates all the Genie Award nominees, announced earlier today at simultaneous press conferences in Toronto and Montreal. Telefilm is also delighted to see that Barney’s Version and Incendies lead the nominations, with 11 and ten nominations respectively. As well, both films are recognized in the Best Motion Picture category.
“This year’s nominees reflect the diversity and the wealth of talent in our industry, from our veterans and emerging filmmakers alike,” said Carolle Brabant, Executive Director of Telefilm. “It goes almost without saying that 2010 has been an incredible year for Canadian cinema. It is thanks not only to the immense talent of our industry, but the courage and integrity of our artistic voice, that Canadian cinema has garnered this recognition.
“We should all be extremely proud of our accomplishments this year,” she concluded.
It should be noted that Telefilm Canada financed all five feature films nominated in the Best Motion Picture category.
Once again this year, Telefilm Canada is a proud partner of the Genie Awards. Through its support of the Awards, Telefilm celebrates Canada’s film talent. The Genie Awards, organized by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, honours and showcases outstanding achievements in Canadian cinema annually.
This year, the Genie Awards will be broadcast live from Ottawa by the CBC on March 10, 2011.
