24 January 2011

Montréal, January 21, 2011 – Telefilm Canada warmly congratulates Xavier Dolan on his César award nomination in the Best Foreign Film category for Les amours imaginaires. Announced earlier this morning in Paris, this is Mr. Dolan’s second nomination in this category.

“We were thrilled to hear the news this morning,” said Carolle Brabant, Executive Director of Telefilm Canada from the Sundance Film Festival in Park City. “Xavier Dolan has very quickly become one of Canada’s most prominent filmmakers. To be recognized in two consecutive years, for two consecutive films, is an impressive achievement for any filmmaker.”

“I would like to congratulate Xavier on this much deserved recognition,” said Michel Pradier, Director, Project Financing at Telefilm Canada.  “This nomination confirms the talent and demonstrates the promising future of this gifted young director.”

Xavier Dolan first caught the world’s attention in 2009 with the release of his first feature film J’ai tué ma mère. At the Cannes Film Festival, where it received an eight-minute standing ovation, the film won three awards including the Prix Regards Jeune.

Les amours imaginaires, his second feature film, has enjoyed both critical and box office success around the world since its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2010.

The César awards will be handed out February 25 in Paris.
