Telefilm Canada showcases the world of Canadian talent at the 37th annual Toronto International Film Festival

08 August 2012

Toronto, August 8, 2012 – Telefilm Canada returns to the Toronto International Film Festival with seven initiatives created to promote our industry’s talent. The second annual Talent To Watch series at the Filmmakers’ Lounge will feature emerging and established filmmakers in provocative discussions on their careers at home and abroad. Launched in 2011, Eye On TIFF in New York will once again provide the American industry with an early look at a selection of 10 Festival films from promising emerging Canadian directors.

In order to encourage the production of new projects, Telefilm Canada PITCH THIS! returns for a 13th consecutive year. Telefilm is also a partner of TIFF Rising Stars, an initiative designed to discover the next generation of Canadian actors; Talent Lab, a professional development workshop; and Filmmaker Boot Camp, a training event dedicated to Canadian talent.

“The quality of Canadian films at this year’s festival allows us to present vital initiatives that celebrate both up-and-coming and seasoned filmmakers,” said Carolle Brabant, Executive Director of Telefilm Canada. “The Toronto International Film Festival is the perfect opportunity to showcase our home-grown talent and to share our rich cultural heritage with international audiences.”

Piers Handling, Director and CEO of TIFF, added: “We are thrilled to be working once again with Telefilm Canada to bring essential programming and significant support to the industry. Telefilm shares in our commitment to the success of past, present and future Canadian filmmakers.”

A Telefilm microsite will shine the spotlight on the producers behind Canadian productions at the Festival as well as their projects in development.
