Telefilm Canada supports 28th annual Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois

10 February 2010

Montréal, February 10, 2010 – Telefilm Canada is proudly supporting the 2010 edition of the Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois, taking place February 17-27. Telefilm provides financial support for the festival, which puts Quebec cinema in the spotlight and offers networking and professional development activities for participating filmmakers. Launched in 1982, the event serves as a contact forum for local and visiting filmmakers, industry representatives and the public.

“Telefilm is happy to renew its support for the Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois, a festival that has showcased the work of local filmmakers for 28 years, making highly diverse, outstanding films available to wide-ranging audiences,” said Sheila de La Varende, Director, National and International Business Development. “In addition to expanding the horizons of the moviegoing public, the Rendez-vous is an important professional development platform for attending writers, directors, producers and others in the film business. For members of the Quebec film industry and movie lovers of all stripes, this is a don’t-miss event.”

“We are pleased to be partnering with the Rendez-vous team, especially since the 2010 edition is dedicated to the memory of filmmaker Gilles Carle,” said Bruno Légaré, Acting Regional Director, Business Development – Quebec Region, and National New Media Executive – French Market at Telefilm. “We are joining the
Rendez-vous to pay tribute to a great film pioneer, who inspired countless Quebec and other filmmakers and brought international fame to Canadian cinema.”

As part of the 2010 Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois, Telefilm is presenting Le Grand Flirt, a networking event in the Rendez-vous section for professionals, where screenwriters, directors and producers can meet one-on-one and develop business partnerships. On Digital Media Day (Journée des médias numériques), Telefilm will be represented on the jury for Le Grand Pitch, a competition that selects the best interactive or multiplatform web fiction project from among submissions by five different developers. As well, the film chosen to close the festival, on February 27, is the Telefilm-supported production Journal d’un coopérant, by Robert Morin.
