Telefilm Canada Supports Canadian-European Producer Engagement at Cartoon Connection Canada-EU

20 October 2010

Montreal, October 20, 2010 – Telefilm Canada is pleased to announce its support for CARTOON CONNECTION Canada-EU, a new networking event that has brought more than 40 European animation producers, broadcasters and distributors to meet up to 60 of their Canadian counterparts.

CARTOON CONNECTION Canada-EU is presented by the Television Animation Conference (TAC) and the Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF), and co-organized with the producers of Cartoon Forum and Cartoon Movie, with the help of the European Union’s MEDIA INTERNATIONAL Programme. The event runs from October 18th to 21st at the Fairmont Château Laurier Hotel in Ottawa.

Canada is world-renowned for its ingenious, creative, ground breaking and often, irreverent animated offerings.  From Cannes, to the Academy Awards, to Annecy, Canada’s animated films attract attention, garner awards and raise the profile of Canada’s unique community of animation filmmakers.

“As a cultural investor in the audiovisual industry, Telefilm Canada salutes Cartoon Connection for providing an effective business development forum to increase knowledge of different markets, promotion, networking and distribution of animation works between European and Canadian industry representatives,” said Sheila de La Varende, Director – International & National Business Development with Telefilm Canada.

This unique event is limited to 100 producers, broadcasters and distributors and, over its three-day span, it is hoped that many long-lasting and productive professional relationships will be established between European participants and their counterparts in Canada.

The OIAF and its business event, TAC, provide an annual destination where the Canadian and international animation industries come to connect.  It is the second largest event of its kind in the world and the premier venue to see Canadian animation.
