Telefilm Canada supports the 12th edition of the Rencontres internationales du documentaire de Montréal (RIDM) and the 5th edition of the Doc Circuit Montréal
Montreal, October 27, 2009 – Telefilm Canada is proud to support the 2009 Rencontres internationales du documentaire, taking place November 11 to 21, 2009, as well as the Doc Circuit Montréal, Montreal’s documentary market, which will be held November 12 and 13, 2009. Telefilm provides support in the amount of $40,000 to the RIDM and $20,000 to the Doc Circuit for business networking and professional development activities as part of the Skills and Screens program.
“For some 12 years now, the Rencontres internationales du documentaire de Montréal has been a premiere knowledge sharing and development event for Canadian audiovisual industry creators and also for all those interested in some form or other in the documentary genre,” said Melanie Hartley, Telefilm Canada’s Regional Director for Business Development – Quebec Region. “Thanks to the RIDM and Doc Circuit, documentary filmmakers from here can continue to expand the horizons of domestic and foreign audiences by showcasing the creativity and originality that typify Canadian works.”
“Our partnership with the Rencontres internationales as well as our own program for the production of feature-length documentaries both allow us to support the development of emerging talent in this unique genre,” said Sheila de La Varende, Director, National and International Business Development. ”Through projects such as these we are able to help long form documentary films with the potential to be commercially viable reach the distribution stage. This is essential to the health of the Canadian documentary film industry,” she concludes.
