Telefilm Canada supports the 29th Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois
Montréal, February 8, 2011 – Telefilm Canada is proud to support the 2011 Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois, running from February 16 to 27. Telefilm provides financial support for the festival, which showcases Quebecois films and offers networking and professional training activities for participating filmmakers.
Midway between a festival and a retrospective, the 10-day Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois is the largest annual celebration of Quebec film. Launched in 1982, the festival serves as a forum, bringing together local and visiting filmmakers, industry representatives and the general public.
“Telefilm is pleased to support the Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois once again this year,” said Carolle Brabant, Executive Director of Telefilm. “For the past 29 years, the festival has been an outstanding showcase for Quebecois filmmakers, making it possible for many high-quality, very diverse films to be seen by large audiences. Not only does the Rendez-vous expand its audiences’ horizons, it provides an essential platform for the development of writers, directors, producers and other industry artisans who take part in the festival.”
It should be noted that the festival’s opening film, En terrains connus (Stéphane Lafleur), and its closing film, The Year Dolly Parton Was My Mom (Tara Johns), were both funded by Telefilm.
As part of the 2011 Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois, Telefilm is presenting Le Grand flirt, a networking event in the Rendez-vous section for professionals. The event provides writers, directors and producers with an opportunity to network and develop business partnerships.
Finally, Telefilm Canada will present Les Journées Transmédia with keynote speaker Alexandre Brachet, Founder and Director of Upian, specializing in interactive production. In addition, Telefilm will be represented on the jury of the Grand Pitch, a competition that selects the best narrative interactive Web or multiplatform project from among submissions by five different developers.
