Telefilm Canada’s statement on the passing of Pierre Juneau

23 February 2012

We were saddened to learn of the passing of Pierre Juneau, whose contribution to Canadian culture, notably to French-language production through the fostering of co-productions, was of vital importance.

“Canada has lost a great man who believed profoundly in the quality and diversity of Canadian film,” said Carolle Brabant, Executive Director of Telefilm Canada. “He was a passionate defender of Canadian content, and there’s no question that he made a major contribution to Canadian society. I extend my most sincere sympathies to his loved ones, and I know that his vision and philosophy will serve as a source of inspiration to many.”

Pierre Juneau played a key role in the growth and development of Canada’s audiovisual industry through the various positions he held at the National Film Board, as the first chair of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) and as president of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
