International festivals and Canadian Pavilion updates

21 May 2020

May 21, 2020 — As we continue to monitor the impact of COVID-19 and adjust our operations accordingly, Telefilm Canada would like to advise clients of the following updates regarding international festivals and the Canadian Pavilion. This year, we are combining our efforts to offer a consolidated promotion campaign between three markets: Cannes Film Market, MIFA, and Sunny Side of the Doc. In this new format, we will showcase Canadian producers and their productions (completed, in post-production, or at the project stage) online during June 15-30, 2020.

CANNES 2020 | CANADA VIRTUAL PAVILION AT THE 2020 MARCHÉ DU FILM
Following the earlier announcement that the 2020 Cannes Film Festival and Marché du Film had been postponed, the Marché du Film Online will now take place from June 22-26, 2020. Created to support the international film industry and facilitate business and networking for professionals from all over the world, the Marché du Film Online is intended to recreate the market experience in Cannes, with live and real-time meetings.

Additionally, the Cannes 2020 Canada Virtual Pavilion will also take place from June 22-26, 2020. The Canadian Pavilion is dedicated to promoting the Canadian audiovisual industry and its wide range of producers, production services, as well as heightened visibility for coproduction and the Canadian delegation.

Telefilm Canada has launched the call for entries for participating to this digital format.

MIFA | INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION FILM MARKET
Following the announcement that the on-site Annecy International Animation Festival 2020 edition has been cancelled, MIFA has transitioned to an online format, running June 15-30, 2020.

Participants will have access to most of the traditional festival and MIFA programming, meetings and networking opportunities that would typically be found onsite in the festival’s new digital experience. Canada will also be present on the festival’s Annecy Network Virtual Stand.

Applications can now be submitted online.

SUNNYSIDE OF THE DOC
Sunny Side of the Doc and PiXii Festival will move to an exclusively online format, running from June 22-25, 2020. Their CONNECTED EDITION will offer business and networking opportunities, as well as pitches and screenings of projects for all participating stakeholders in the documentary industry.

Telefilm Canada has launched the call for entries for participating to this digital format and is currently setting up networking activities in collaboration with the organizers and its partners. Canada will also be present on the festival’s Virtual Stand.

The deadline for all applications is May 29, 2020.
