Telefilm Canada makes changes to international programs to bolster Canadian film exports and promote homegrown talent on the world stage
Montréal, July 16, 2018 – In the interest of making its processes more flexible and more streamlined, Telefilm Canada has revised its Export Assistance and International Marketing – Participation in International Festivals and Events programs. The changes made to the programs aim to meet the industry’s needs and will enable Telefilm Canada to maximize the support it provides.
By implementing these new changes, Telefilm Canada is strengthening the priorities of its most recent strategic plan, notably encouraging the export of Canadian content and talent, as well as facilitating access to coproduction forums for Canadian producers.
Telefilm Canada is making the following changes to the Export Assistance Program:
- Only projects that have received production funding from Telefilm and whose overall budgets stand at $2.5M or less are eligible.
- The maximum amount of funding per project has been increased to $90,000.
- The maximum amount of funding per territory has been increased to $45,000.
- Telefilm Canada funding will match the minimum amount guaranteed by the foreign distributor.
- Accommodation and transportation expenses will now be treated as a single item rather than as separate items (one category, now called “Travel Expenses”).
- Territories will now be treated as a single item rather than as separate items (now one category).
- Six territories have been added (Australia, Denmark, Finland, Norway, New Zealand and Sweden).

Telefilm Canada is making the following changes to the International Marketing Program – Participation in International Festivals and Events:
- Accommodation and transportation expenses will now be treated as a single item rather than as separate items (one category, now called “Travel Expenses”); this applies to all types of events.
- Some 40 events have been added, on five continents; more specifically, these events are Category 3 festivals, short-film festivals, coproduction forums and markets.

A simplified process to facilitate access to funding
Dialogue, Telefilm Canada’s new automated platform, optimizes the funding application process. For Dialogue and eTelefilm account users, access to funding is simpler now, making it possible to better promote Canadian productions around the globe.
