Theatrical Documentary Program for fiscal year 2023 – 2024: Guidelines now available

February 23, 2023 – Telefilm Canada is pleased to inform Canadian production companies that the Theatrical Documentary Program’s guidelines, essential information guide and other supporting documents for the 2023-2024 fiscal are now available.

The main changes to this Program are:

• Starting in fiscal year 2023-2024, a project that is refused by Telefilm three (3) times under this Program cannot be re-submitted for funding.
• The requirement to have a firm commitment from an eligible Canadian distribution company for the theatrical release of projects with a total budget of $500,000 or less has been removed.

Reminder of Key Program dates:

• All applications, including for postproduction and applications to the Indigenous Stream must be submitted to Telefilm between March 20 and April 3, 2023.

Under this program, Telefilm aims to support feature-length documentaries that engage Canadian and international audiences through theatrical releases and that have a cultural impact and foster public engagement, while contributing to Canada’s cultural heritage.
