Telefilm Canada relaunches the Open Access Stream for fiscal 2022-2023

26 April 2022

Telefilm Canada is relaunching the Open Access Stream for fiscal 2022-2023 with updated Guidelines and Essential Information Guide now available on the webpage of the Open Access Stream.

This stream allows Canadian festivals who are not eligible under the Limited Edition or the General Admission streams of the Promotion Program to access Reopening Funds.

This stream aims to support Canadian film festivals across the country that will be held in-person or in a hybrid format between July 1, 2022, and June 30, 2023 and that have not received any other support from Telefilm for access to the Reopening Fund this year.

All applicants are encouraged to consult the Public Health Canada’s Risk Mitigation Tool for gathering and events operating during the COVID-19 pandemic for event planners.

Key dates:

For festivals held July 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023: May 9 – 19, 2022

For festivals held April 1, 2023 to June 30, 2023: January 30 – February 9, 2023

Important changes:

  • Funding has been increased to $7,500 and can be increased to $15,000 in the case of larger-scale festivals.
  • Festivals that applied under the General Admission Stream but were refused will be automatically considered under the Open Access Stream, without needing to submit a separate application, and will be prioritized.
  • Festivals which include a minimum 15% of Canadian Works in their previous and upcoming edition programming will also be given priority access.

All applications must be submitted online by sending an email to promotion@telefilm.ca and must include the completed application form, Eligibility Attestation and void cheque. All applicants are encouraged to read the Guidelines and the Essential Information Guide available on the webpage of the Open Access Stream.
