Telefilm Canada reopens the Promotion Program’s General Admission Stream

06 May 2021

Telefilm Canada announces the reopening of the Promotion Program’s General Admission Stream for festivals to be held between October 1, 2021, and March 31, 2022.

The General Admission Stream, launched earlier this year, aims to provide streamlined funding to smaller and emerging film festivals across the country for promotional activities held in Canada that showcase Canadian content and talent.

Festivals that have never received funding from Telefilm or that received funding of $5000.00 or less under the Promotion Program in the past fiscal year should apply to the General Admission Stream.

The Promotion Program

Telefilm has reoriented the structure of the Promotion Program by type of activity (festivals, conferences, trainings, etc.) to better serve the needs of clients. The Program is now comprised of three separate streams: the General Admission Stream, the newly announced Limited Edition Stream, and a third stream (which finances national award ceremonies, alternative distribution networks, conferences, training and galas) to be announced soon.

The Limited Edition Stream caters to existing clients who have received financial support under the Promotion Program in fiscal 2020-2021 or, if their last edition was cancelled due to the pandemic, in fiscal 2019-2020. This stream aims to help maintain steady financing opportunities for festivals and film markets in 2021-2022.

The review of the Promotion Program will continue as part of Telefilm’s modernization initiatives.

Key dates:

  • The General Admission Stream will reopen from June 14 to June 17, 2021, for festivals and film markets held between October 1, 2021, and March 31, 2022
