Telefilm Canada announces changes to the Success Index and resumes Pan-Canadian consultation
Due to the negative impact of COVID-19 on the Canadian feature film industry, Telefilm Canada is suspending any further use of the Success Index for the 2020-2021 fiscal year.
The Success Index, which measures commercial, cultural and industrial success, also constitutes the individual company scores that determine some automatic financing amounts for the following fiscal year. Therefore, all automatic financing decisions will move to a selective process in fiscal 2021-2022.
Furthermore, Telefilm will accelerate its Pan-Canadian consultation with members of the industry on the Success Index, as announced earlier this year. This national consultation will also inform the optimization of its financing programs such as Development, Production and Talent to Watch.
These consultations will be transparent, inclusive and held in both Official Languages. Consultations will take the form of an online survey, virtual townhalls and meetings with established working groups.
These initiatives, which were to take place back in Spring, were placed on hold while Telefilm focused its efforts on sustaining the industry and allocating the COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund.
Details regarding upcoming consultations will be announced shortly.
