Telefilm Canada announces its commitment to 10 English-language national feature film projects

28 July 2021

Telefilm Canada has selected 10 English-language national feature film projects from the 2021 selective process under the Production Program, with a total commitment of over $17 million.

Telefilm received an increasingly high volume of applications under the Production Program this year. A total of 282 applications were considered by the Advisory Committees representing approximately $260 million in funding requests. Of the 282 applications, 117 were national feature film projects (including the 12 French-language national decisions announced earlier) and 165 were English- and French-language lower budget feature film projects (including the 29 lower budget decisions announced last week). Feature film projects selected in the Indigenous Stream will be announced in the coming week and is not included in this total application amount.

Coproduction projects of all budget levels are accepted until September 30, 2021, at 11pm EST, subject to availability of funds.

Advisory Committees comprised of external and internal representatives evaluated the projects and made recommendations to Telefilm. The decision-making process also took into account Telefilm’s goal of fostering a diversity of voices in the industry. Names of the Advisory Committee members will be made available on the Production Program webpage once decisions for all the programs using the Advisory Committees have been announced.
