18 November 2016

What’s new: Adoption of new measures to promote diversity

Montreal, November 18, 2016 – Telefilm Canada is now accepting applications to its Theatrical Documentary Program for fiscal 2016-2017 until December 7, 2016. The program, offered in partnership with the Rogers Group of Funds, provides Canadian production companies with financial assistance for production and post-production of theatrical documentary projects.

Since the start of this partnership, launched in 2005, 61 documentaries have been produced for a total investment of some $12 million.

New measures to promote diversity

Telefilm Canada recently announced that it has put in place new measures to diversify its feature film portfolio, aiming to achieve gender parity in each of the key roles of director, writer and producer by 2020.

Based on consultations held this year, Telefilm will now, for projects of equal quality, favour projects that have a woman as director and/or a woman as writer.

In order to simplify the process, applications to the Theatrical Documentary Program must now be made online at telefilm.ca.
